Art Box Experience invites you to the exhibition “Dalí Universe – Immerse Yourself in the World of the Master of Surrealism”, showcasing five sculptures by one of the greatest surrealist masters – Salvador Dalí. The exhibition, which began on January 24 and runs until March 23, 2025, complements the ongoing “Dalí Cybernetics” display, which has already attracted over 35,000 visitors. For the first time in Poland, you can experience an immersive presentation of the life and works of this brilliant Catalan artist and explore his three-dimensional masterpieces.
Dalí’s Sculptures – A Lesser-Known Aspect of Genius
The “Dalí Universe” exhibition focuses on Dalí’s lesser-known creative domain – sculpture. It highlights three-dimensional objects that masterfully blend symbolism, imagination, and form. Visitors will have the chance to admire select works from a collection amassed over 45 years by Beniamino Levi, an Italian collector, art dealer, and president of the “Dalí Universe” exhibition series. This unique collection was inspired by Levi’s meetings with Dalí himself, where the artist shared his visions, philosophy, and surrealistic approach to art. The sculptures, based on themes from Dalí’s paintings, give his works a new dimension by transforming his two-dimensional visions into three-dimensional forms.
The result of Levi’s passion for Dalí’s art is a remarkable collection of over 200 pieces, including jewelry, furniture, and more than 50 sculptures crafted using techniques ranging from bronze casting to glasswork and goldsmithing. A selection of these pieces is now on display in Poland for the first time, exclusively at Art Box Experience in our complex.
This is one of the world’s most important private collections of Dalí’s sculptures. It has been exhibited globally, including at the Soumaya Museum in Mexico, Mitsukoshi Museum of Modern Art in Japan, Place Vendôme in Paris, Piazza dell’Academia in Florence, Time Warner Center in New York, and Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills.
“The ‘Dalí Universe’ exhibition is a unique opportunity to dive into the surrealistic world of one of the greatest 20th-century artists—a realm filled with symbols, imagination, and fascinating forms. The five sculptures showcased are not just works of art but reflections on human nature, time, transience, and the modern world. Each carries profound meaning and invites dialogue with Dalí’s imagination—a master who pursued three-dimensional expression throughout his life. These sculptures, derived from his paintings and graphics, perfectly realize that ambition, and can now be seen for the first time in Poland at Art Box,” says Joanna Kowalkowska, CEO of Art Box Experience.
The Artistic Process and Sculptural Techniques
Dalí’s sculptures were brought to life by a team of craftsmen. The artist provided sketches, designs, and models that were later cast in bronze or created from other durable materials. This process translated his surrealistic visions from two-dimensional canvases into three-dimensional reality. Dalí often chose bronze for its timeless quality, incorporating materials like marble, wood, or gold to enrich the symbolism and form of his works.
Most of the sculptures were created during the later stages of Dalí’s career, from the late 1960s to the early 1980s—a period when he delved deeply into philosophical reflections on human nature, time, and spirituality. The pieces displayed at Art Box Experience were crafted in bronze using the lost-wax casting technique, with dimensions ranging from 18.5 cm to 150 cm.
Among the iconic sculptures featured in the exhibition are: Profile of Time, Michelin’s Slave, Death Mask of Napoleon, Lilith and the Double Victory of Samothrace, Atavistic Ruins after the Rain.
